THE CRISIS
Our mountains are going silent.
Between 2000 and 2022, Kosovo lost 15,980 hectares of forest — that's 3.5 football fields disappearing every single day. Illegal logging, firewood dependency, and weak enforcement are stripping our hillsides bare.
At this rate, by 2035 Kosovo will have no healthy forests left. The air our children breathe, the water our villages drink, the landscapes we call home — all of it depends on forests we're losing right now.
But this is not a story about despair. It's about what happens when people decide to act.
"If the trend continues, by 2035 Kosovo will not have any healthy forests left."
15,980
hectares of forest lost since 2000
That's 1.5 hectares per day — equivalent to 3.5 football fields vanishing every 24 hours. Verified by satellite imagery from ESA Sentinel 2 and NASA Landsat 8.

IS THIS YOU?
Two Ways to Join the Movement
IN KOSOVO
You want to act, not just talk.
You scroll Instagram and see everyone talking about climate change — wildfires, protests, Greta. And you think: "Is there anything like that HERE?"
You want to do something about Kosovo's problems, but corruption and politics make you feel powerless. You want to show up, make something with your hands, and have something real to point to.
Green Wings is where that happens. One day. Seed bombs. A drone launch. 350+ people your age. Photos your friends will actually engage with. And a line on your CV that says you did something.
FROM ABROAD
You want to build something back home.
You see a WhatsApp photo from your cousin — the forest above your village is gone. You feel the guilt of distance. You want to send money that actually becomes trees, not administrative overhead.
You want your children growing up in Zurich or Munich to know where they come from — and to see that you're building something in Kosovo.
Every euro you give maps to a specific output: seed bombs created, hectares restored, satellite-verified. You'll see exactly what your money did.
FOR VOLUNTEERS

COMMON QUESTIONS
You Might Be Wondering
"I don't have time for weekly meetings."
Green Wings events are one-day, seasonal. No meetings, no committees. Show up when you can, bring a friend.
"How do I know my donation won't be wasted?"
Satellite-verified data. Open-source GIS analysis on GitHub. Quarterly impact reports. Reuters, USAID, FAO, and the Municipality of Prishtina stand behind this work.
"I'm abroad — how can I contribute from here?"
Our entire diaspora path is designed for remote participation. Donate online through Global Albanians Foundation, track your impact via satellite imagery, and visit your trees when you're home for summer.
"I'm not an environmentalist."
Neither were most of our 913+ volunteers. This isn't about being green — it's about whether Kosovo will have forests when you're 40. It's about clean air for your kids. It's about not losing our mountains.
"Will it actually make a difference?"
16 hectares restored. 39,917 seed bombs deployed. A drone that plants 5x faster than humans. This isn't symbolic — it's measurable. And we're just getting started.
